Description

Located in the shadow of Table Mountain, Cape Town is the second largest South African city and is over 350 years old. This is Africa’s most southern city and is close to both the vineyards of the Cape Winelands and to the Cape of Good Hope. The South African people sometimes call Johannesburg Egoli, the City of Gold. This is a reference to the gold mines that lie beneath the city and to the heady Gold Rush that led to the city’s founding in the late 1800s. Johannesburg offers you the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of history-makers like Nelson Mandela, Gandhi and Archbishop Desmond Tutu and to visit landmarks which show its road to social reform. Half of Johannesburg’s three million population live in Soweto, a living monument to the country’s struggle against apartheid.
